Where to Stay in Hoi An for Easy Tailor Visits

Where you stay in Hoi An directly affects how convenient your tailoring experience will be. Multiple fittings mean multiple trips to the shop, so proximity matters.

Old Town (Best for Most Visitors)

Staying in Old Town puts you within walking distance of 36 of the 40 tailor shops in our directory. Hotels and homestays along Lê Lợi, Trần Hưng Đạo, and Nguyễn Thái Học streets are ideal. You can walk to your tailor in under 5 minutes for fittings, which makes the two-fitting process effortless. Browse Old Town tailors.

An Hoi Island

Across the bridge from Old Town, An Hoi Island is home to the Cloth Market and four well-reviewed shops including 45 Thu Tailor (the most-reviewed in Hoi An). Accommodation here is slightly cheaper than Old Town, and you are still only a 2-minute bridge crossing from the main tailor streets. Browse An Hoi Island tailors.

Riverside Hotels

Hotels along the Thu Bồn River, on either side, offer pleasant views and easy access to both Old Town and An Hoi Island. This is a good middle ground if you want to visit shops in both areas.

What to Avoid

Hotels on An Bàng Beach (4km from Old Town) or in the newer parts of town will require a taxi or motorbike for each fitting visit. This adds friction to the process and makes it harder to drop in for quick adjustments. If you are staying outside Old Town, consider scheduling all fittings in a single block rather than spreading them across days.

The Ideal Setup

Stay 2 to 3 nights in a hotel on Trần Hưng Đạo or Lê Lợi. Visit your tailor on the morning of day one. Return for fittings on day two. Pick up finished garments on your final morning. This gives you maximum flexibility with minimal logistics.

Old Town Accommodation

Old Town is where 36 of the 40 tailors in our directory are located. Staying in or near the Old Town puts you within walking distance of most shops, which is essential when you need to pop back for fittings across multiple days. Hotels and guesthouses in the Old Town range from US $15 to $80 per night. The Japanese Bridge area and Tran Phu Street are the most convenient locations, with the highest concentration of tailors within a five-minute walk.

An Hoi Island

An Hoi Island, just across the Thu Bon River from the Old Town, has four tailors in our directory and a range of accommodation options. It is quieter than the Old Town with lower accommodation prices (US $12 to $50 per night). The walk from An Hoi to the Old Town tailor shops takes 10 to 15 minutes across the bridge, which is pleasant but less convenient for multiple fitting visits. Choose An Hoi if you want a quieter base and do not mind the short walk.

How Many Days to Stay

Plan your Hoi An stay based on what you want to have made:

  • Simple items only (shirts, accessories): 2 to 3 days. Enough for consultation, one fitting, and pickup.
  • One suit or dress: 3 to 4 days. Allows for two fittings and proper turnaround time.
  • Multiple complex items (suits, dresses, shoes): 5 to 7 days. The most comfortable timeline that avoids rushing any garment.
  • Full wardrobe overhaul: 7 to 10 days. Allows time to order from multiple shops if desired, with full fitting schedules for each.

Combining Tailoring with Tourism

Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with excellent food, atmospheric streets, and cultural experiences beyond tailoring. Between fittings, explore the covered Japanese Bridge, attend a cooking class, cycle through the rice paddies, or take a boat trip on the Thu Bon River. Many visitors find that the fitting schedule provides a pleasant structure to their Hoi An stay: morning fitting, daytime exploration, afternoon fitting, evening dinner in the Old Town. Budget Accommodation Tips

Hoi An accommodation is affordable by international standards. Budget guesthouses in the Old Town area cost US $10 to $20 per night. Mid-range boutique hotels run US $25 to $60. Premium riverside hotels cost US $60 to $120. For tailoring-focused trips, mid-range is the sweet spot: comfortable enough to rest between fittings, well-located for walking to shops, and affordable enough that the accommodation cost is negligible compared to your tailoring savings. Book directly with the hotel via their website or Booking.com for the best rates. During peak season (December to February), book at least two weeks ahead to secure Old Town accommodation.
